Tottenham’s fall-back plan in case of Antonio Conte departure revealed

An insight into the likely actions of those in a position of power at Tottenham Hotspur in the case of Antonio Conte’s departure has been provided on Friday.

The subject of Conte’s future, of course, has come back to the fore in the media in a major way over the course of the week to date.

This comes on the back of the Italian first aiming a less than subtle dig at Daniel Levy and co., in response to the Lilywhites’ efforts during the January transfer window:

”Four players left in January”, Conte explained during an interview with beIN Sports. ”Four important players for Tottenham, two have arrived. So even numerically instead of reinforcing, you may have, on paper, weakened.”

And such comments were followed earlier today by Conte hinting that he remains committed to the cause at Tottenham only through the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking ahead of Spurs’ Premier League showdown with table-topping Manchester City on Saturday, the ex-Chelsea coach simply stated that ‘we’ll see’ what his future holds beyond the summer:

Poch eyed

So, in the case that Conte does ultimately opt to leave his current employers high and dry, where would that leave the club’s hierarchy when it comes to planning for the future?

Well, as alluded to above, an insight into precisely that has been provided on Friday.

The info comes courtesy of Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, who assures that Daniel Levy will be ‘straight on the phone’ to former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino in the case of Conte moving on.

Pochettino is of course currently in the midst of something of a hit-and-miss spell in France with Paris Saint-Germain, with the Argentine’s future beyond the summer looking less than certain.

Could a return to north London therefore be on the cards?
