Tottenham hitman Harry Kane could sign for Manchester United if Mauricio Pochettino takes over at Old Trafford, according to reports. The England international’s future in north London remains uncertain, despite Daniel Levy refusing to let him go last summer. And with Manchester City poised to look elsewhere, United could capitalise by striking a blockbuster summer deal.

Kane wanted to leave Tottenham last summer.

He was disillusioned with life in north London, particularly after Tottenham ended the campaign with no trophy and no Champions League football.

Kane actually enjoyed playing under Jose Mourinho in the capital but, when Levy sacked the Portuguese in April, that impacted his talisman.

Only now, under Antonio Conte, the 28-year-old is enjoying his football again.

Yet with Tottenham facing a big fight to finish in the top four, it’s possible they’ll be forced to cope without the Champions League for yet another year.

United are also struggling to book their slot in Europe’s top club competition, with Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both struggling to get the best from their star-studded squad over the course of the campaign.

What could work well in their favour, however, is Kane’s preference if he is to leave Tottenham in the summer.

It was reported by the Independent last year that the 28-year-old wasn’t entirely sold on the idea of going abroad amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

At the time, it was stated Kane’s preference would be to stay in England with one of the two Manchester clubs.

Manchester City were established as frontrunners at the time, with United focusing on the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

They also later snapped up Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portugal international returning from Juventus 12 years after he’d departed to Real Madrid.

Yet that works well in United’s favour.

Manchester City aren’t expected to go after Kane, with Pep Guardiola eyeing younger forwards instead. Erling Haaland, for example, is one of them.

And that means United may find striking a deal for the Tottenham hitman significantly easier than 12 months ago because they will be his only suitors in England.

Tottenham are likely to make it as difficult as possible for the Red Devils, especially if Pochettino ends up taking over at their fierce rivals.

However, with Kane previously denied a move away, his stance on the matter could ultimately trigger Spurs into parting ways with their talisman.

Speaking earlier in the campaign, meanwhile, Tim Sherwood expressed a belief that United should prioritise a deal for Kane.

“I still think they need a centre-forward, I really do,” he said.

“Jadon Sancho, we haven’t seen him, he came off the bench. They’ve got a lot of good players in a lot of areas.

“But I think Cavani is their best No 9 and a player who is ageing like that, they’re desperate for Harry Kane. They’re desperate for him.

“If they have Harry Kane, for me they are up there with Man City and Chelsea to win the Premier League.”
