Revealed: The two Newcastle stars in line for new contracts

Two members of Eddie Howe’s personnel ranks at Newcastle United are set to be rewarded for their form with new contracts, it has been confirmed.

First up? Defender Fabian Schar.

Swiss international Schar of course remains a key cog at the heart of the defence at St. James’ Park.

After falling out of favour under the watch of Steve Bruce earlier in the campaign, the 30-year-old has since returned to prominence under Eddie Howe, with the early signs having pointed towards an altogether encouraging partnership alongside January arrival Dan Burn.

In turn, though the new Saudi regime overseeing developments at the club are expected to target defensive reinforcements come the summer, Schar appears to have done enough to carve out a spot for himself in the Magpies’ long-term plans.

And in line to join Schar in putting pen to paper on fresh terms on Tyneside in the near future is Jonjo Shelvey.

Shelvey, so recently the source of widespread frustration on the part of the Newcastle faithful, appears to have turned a corner under the watch of boss Howe.

In turn, a new deal, as per The Telegraph, is being readied for the midfielder, as those in a position of power at St. James’ lay the groundwork for a prosperous new era in the north east of England.

Magpies soaring

News of fresh terms being lined up for both Schar and Shelvey of course comes fresh on the back of a timely upturn in form on Newcastle’s part over recent weeks.

Owing at least in some part to a big-money winter outlay, the Geordie giants have climbed out of the Premier League’s relegation zone and towards maintaining their top-flight status, courtesy of ten points secured from an available twelve.

The club’s latest positive result came this past weekend, as Howe and co. departed the London Stadium with a credible share of the spoils owing to a 1-1 stalemate with top-4-chasing West Ham.
