Ralf Rangnick confirms the position Man United intend to strengthen in the summer

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has, on Friday, confirmed that the club have plans in place to reinforce one major position of need ahead of next season.

The area in question? Up front.

The situation at the tip of United’s frontline has of course long proven something of a conundrum.

This comes with none of the trio of Marcus Rashford, the now-suspended Mason Greenwood or on loan Anthony Martial having proven themselves worthy of the mantle of the long-term answer to the striker woes at Old Trafford.

Those in a position of power at the club, in turn, came to the decision to sanction the additions of not one, but two veteran attackers over the course of the last 18 months.

First through the door was Edinson Cavani, followed last summer by Cristiano Ronaldo.

With the latter having recently turned 37, and Cavani primed to follow into the latter half of his thirties in just days’ time, though, it remains evident that the Red Devils’ frontline will soon require fresh blood.

Speaking to the media on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the aforementioned Rangnick confirmed that United indeed intend to dip into the market for reinforcements up top this coming summer:

Kane an option?

Interestingly, Rangnick’s admission regarding the summer plans on the red half of Manchester comes on the same day that United have been tipped to reignite the club’s pursuit of Harry Kane.

As per a report from The Telegraph, should PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino be installed in the dugout at Old Trafford ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, then the Argentine’s first demand would be the capture of English international Kane from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

This of course comes after Pochettino previously spent time overseeing Kane’s goalscoring exploits in north London, during a successful joint-stint with Spurs.
