Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has set his sights on becoming the top goalscorer in Europa League history – and plans to usurp Celtic legend Henrik Larsson in the process.
The Swedish striker and former Barcelona man is the tournament’s current top scorer on 40 goals between Celtic and Feyenoord with Alfie joint third on 31.
Klaus Jan Huntelaar is second on 34 with Morelos joined by Radamel Falcao and Aritz Aduriz on 31 strikes between goals in the Europa League and UEFA Cup.
Scoring his latest goal in the competition in the 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund, Colombian international Alfie was speaking ahead of the return at Ibrox.
And beyond just making an impression in the match against the Germans, Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos also has heart set on making history in the Europa League and outscoring ex-Celtic hero Henrik Larsson.
“My objective is clear – to become the top scorer in the competition. That’s my aim,” Morelos told ESPN Colombia.
“But the only way to achieve that is with a lot of work and keep scoring goals.”
Morelos wants to outscore Larsson – but Dortmund just want to keep him quiet
Alfredo Morelos was also the subject of comments from Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose, who singled the striker out ahead of the Europa League clash return against Rangers.
The Colombian international was a powerhouse in the victory over the German side and Rose waxed lyrical about his performance and attitude at Signal Iduna Park.
“He’s a good player, I think he’s physically strong, he knows how to use his body and he knows where the goal is,” said Rose [Sky Sports].
“He is brave, he is not so tall but he is very brave and he was very difficult for our defenders to defend. I like his style and his mentality.
“He is scoring, we saw it in the league when we prepared for these games and I hope tomorrow he will not have such a good day.”
The biggest news coming out of Borussia Dortmund surrounds Erling Braut Haaland, who never travelled with the German side to Glasgow for the game.
