Any chance of James Milner signing a new contract at Liverpool is entirely up to him, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The veteran midfielder is out of contract in the summer, having been at the club since he joined in 2015 on a free transfer from Manchester City.
Then looked on as an underwhelming move for both parties, it has proved a brilliant decision, with Milner’s versatility and no-nonsense attitude having served him well during his time under Jurgen Klopp on his side’s way to lifting the Premier League and Champions League trophy.

Speaking about a potential new deal for the Englishman, Klopp confirmed that one was indeed in the works, alongside new deals for Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
‘There are talks (with Milner), but usually we don’t comment about that’, the Liverpool boss revealed.
‘There is no reason for it, but I am in talks, the club is in talks with Milly, so we will see.’
‘There is no chance Milly will retire next year so he is desperate to play on’, he added.
Up to the player
Now, as per Fabrizio Romano, a one-year extension is on the table for Milner from the club, which would take him to 8 years with Liverpool.

It has been left in the player’s hands, according to the transfer expert. Should this prove the case, one imagines Milner will have little hesitation when it comes to signing on the dotted line.
