Former Premier League and Swansea City hitman Michu has weighed in on where he thinks Norwegian starlet Erling Haaland will land next as the future of the Borussia Dortmund goalscoring machine remains unclear; Barcelona.
Michu: “Haaland gave me the feeling that he’s looking for a long-term sporting project and he told me he likes Spain. He’s thinking more about a sporting project than from an economic perspective. If Mbappe goes to Real Madrid, I think Barcelona would be a very good option.” pic.twitter.com/ObBB0c7wHk

Now the sporting director at Segunda Division outfit Burgos CF, Michu recently spoke to Haaland (with whom he has a previous relationship during his time in England) and sees his future near-guaranteed to be away from the Ruhr valley in either the Spanish capital or in Catalunya.
In quotes provided by Mundo Deportivo citing Michu’s appearance on radio outlet Cadena SER, the former journeyman striker listed Barcelona as the possible destination for the Norwegian star given the likely pathway of French talisman Kylian Mbappé finding its way to Madrid: ‘I was with Haaland, I had a conversation with him and I think he is not going to continue at Dortmund. Haaland is looking for a very strong team that can compete in the Champions League. He is looking for a competitive team.’
‘He gave me the feeling that he was looking for a sports project for many years and he told me that he liked Spain. Think more about a sports project than the economic issue. If Mbappé goes to Madrid, I think Barça would be a very good option. With these times, Haaland is cheap.’
Barcelona has the ‘right person in Xavi
Michu did not only run the rule over the prospective Barcelona future of Erling Haaland during his media appearance but also sang the praises of legendary former Blaugrana midfielder and current club manager Xavi after the La Masia graduate returned home in the wake of the club parting ways with Ronald Koeman.
Xavi had guided Barcelona to a 6-4-1 record since he made his managerial debut which has included an eight-match unbeaten run.
Now, the Spanish giants – who were looking nothing more than a midtable outfit when Koeman was shown the exit row – currently reside in the top four and are quickly closing the gap with surprise package Real Betis with just four points separating the two while Barcelona maintains a match in hand.
‘I predict a great and very successful career for Xavi as a coach” he said. ‘I think he’s the right person for Barça, football has no memory and lacks time, but it’s what Barça and Xavi need right now.’
Thus far in the 2021-22 La Liga season, Xavi is indeed showing himself to be the right man to reignite the engine room in Catalonia.
