Sheringham added that given Rice’s growing reputation as one of the best in the world for his position, West Ham should be demanding closer to £160m, especially when compared with the figures being quoted for Harry Kane last summer.

“When the best centre forward in the world was up for sale in the summer, Tottenham wanted £200 million for him, the other clubs didn’t have that valuation.

“I’m going up to 150, 160 for Declan Rice.”

Rice’s all-action performances this season have seen him compared to Liverpool and England legend Steven Gerrard of late, and Sheringham is clearly another who shares that view.
