Liverpool star Diogo Jota is currently ahead of Erling Haaland as one of the best strikers in the world, according to Arsenal legend Ray Parlour. Jota has scored five goals in his last five appearances for Liverpool and 17 in all competitions so far this season. Only Mohamed Salah has scored more than the Portuguese for the Reds this term.

Jota has seemingly overtaken Roberto Firmino as the first-choice central striker option for Jurgen Klopp.

Firmino has started just eight Premier League matches this season, though did miss a large chunk of the campaign due to injury.

Jota has taken advantage of his opportunities and is only second behind Salah in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.

He is expected to start the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Inter Milan on Wednesday.

“What he’s done since Salah and Mane have been away, Jota, has been unbelievable,” Parlour said on talkSPORT.

“I think he’s the best No 9 at the moment. He’s been absolutely sensational since they lost Mane and Salah.

“I like his work rate, the way he conducts himself every game, the goals he scores and I think he’s going to get better.”

TalkSPORT presenter Laura Woods then asked if Parlour prefers Jota to Haaland on current form.

Klopp said: “He’s obviously in a really good goalscoring moment which is incredibly helpful.

“It’s always helpful, but in the absence of Mo (Salah) and Sadio (Mane) it has been extremely helpful.

“We knew he is good. But we had no idea where his limit was, or where he can go.

“I’m not sure he’s already there. He is just improving.

“If you speak to him, you will realise he is a really smart person so he will judge all the right things and use that to make the next steps.”
