Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly identified an ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah, should the club’s top goalscorer decide to leave this summer. Salah is out of contract at the end of next season, and talks have stalled over a new deal.
Liverpool are understood to be considering a move for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele this summer. The Reds are currently sweating over the future of Mo Salah, and Klopp is said to be fearing the worst about whether or not he will remain at Anfield.
Salah has been indispensable for Klopp in recent years, finishing as the club’s top goalscorer in all four seasons since he joined. However, having said that the club “cannot do much more” to convince the Egyptian to stay, Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, claim he has begun to look elsewhere.
The report suggests that Klopp is impressed by Dembele’s ‘pace and dribbling’, having previously worked with the winger at Borussia Dortmund. The Frenchman is out of contract this summer, and has struggled for form since returning from a lengthy injury.
Last week Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp claimed the club are doing all they can to convince Salah to sign a new contract. He said: “Mo definitely expects this club to be ambitious.
“We were in the last years and we are. What’s the question? If I think the signing of Luis Diaz helps Mo to make [a decision]?
“Of course we cannot do much more but I don’t think it’s about that. It’s Mo’s decision pretty much. The club did what the club can do. That’s how it is, nothing bad to say about it.
“It’s all fine, from my point of view it’s exactly like it should be in this moment in time. Nothing’s happened further, no signing, no rejection or whatever. So we just have to wait for that, it’s completely fine, it’s no rush in that situation.”
