Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has, on Sunday, taken firm aim at Chelsea, ahead of the imminent showdown between the two clubs.
The frustration on Carragher’s part comes owing to Chelsea’s handling of the ongoing backlash against owner Roman Abramovich, after the billionaire businessman revealed his intention to ‘give trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC’ on the back of the Vladimir Putin-led Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Abramovich’s actions, confirmed in an official statement on Saturday, have since been met with something of a mixed reaction, with many of the opinion that the move came as little more than a token gesture to save face.

And one individual who feels as though such endeavours have reflected badly on Chelsea, who have ‘let themselves down badly’ with their own handing of the situation, is the aforementioned Jamie Carragher.
Speaking as part of his punditry role ahead of this evening’s Carabao Cup finale, Carragher was drawn on the developing situation at Stamford Bridge.
And the Liverpool icon went as far as to suggest that Chelsea, as a whole, have ’embarrassed themselves’ over the last 24 hours, explaining:
“I don’t think they’ve handled it really well. I think that the couple of statements they’ve put out – I think it’s been really poor.
“I think they’ve let themselves down badly.
“I think the club came out today and put out a statement as well, but I think that was trying to rectify what Roman Abramovich put out the night before.
“And I don’t think they did that well either, really. So it’s not worked out well for them at all. I think they’ve embarrassed themselves.
“They should be a lot stronger in what they said.”

Turning attentions back towards matters on the pitch, the action between Liverpool and Chelsea is of course set to get underway in short order.
After getting the better of Arsenal and Tottenham in their respective semi-final ties, the two Premier League heavyweights will go head-to-head at Wembley, eyeing an early-season addition to their domestic trophy hauls.
Both, in turn, have unsurprisingly opted for strong starting line-ups, ahead of what should prove a hard-fought, and thoroughly entertaining 90 minutes in the English capital:
