Ivan Toney & Christian Eriksen updates ahead of Brentford’s clash with Arsenal

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has, on Friday, provided fitness updates on two star members of his squad, ahead of the club’s showdown with Arsenal.

First on the agenda was hitman Ivan Toney.

Toney, Brentford’s top scorer across the campaign to date, was forced to sit out the Bees’ last two outings versus Manchester City and Crystal Palace, owing to a calf injury.

This brought to an end a fine stretch of form on the part of the Englishman, who had managed to find the net in each of his previous three appearances.

In turn, those of a Brentford persuasion will no doubt be delighted to hear that Toney is making progress towards a return to the pitch, albeit with his participation versus Arsenal still, as things stand, up in the air:

Turning attentions towards midfield, an insight was also provided into the chances of Christian Eriksen being afforded his bow in Bees colours on Saturday afternoon.

Danish international Eriksen of course clinched a return to the Premier League late last month, after parting ways with Inter Milan on the back of his frightening collapse at last summer’s European Championships.

In turn, after managing 60 minutes in a friendly outing earlier this week, and even bagging an assist along the way, murmurs had begun to spread that the former Tottenham man could mark his competitive return to action at the Emirates.

Boss Thomas Frank, however, has confirmed that this will in fact not prove the case:

Gunners eyeing revenge

Turning attentions away from Brentford and towards Arsenal, Mikel Arteta’s men will of course head into the latest round of Premier League action dead set on securing all three points, for more than one reason.

First off, the Gunners remain in the thick of the race for a top-4 berth in the English top-flight, currently sitting four points adrift of Manchester United in the final Champions League spot, but, crucially, boasting three games in hand.

Not only that, but, on the last occasion on which Arsenal and Brentford met, the latter embarrassed their heavyweight opponents, courtesy of a deserved 2-0 triumph on the opening day of the campaign.
