With Paris Saint-Germain set to take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, how Lionel Messi reacted to being drawn against his old enemies has seemingly been revealed.

Report: Messi Warns Xavi Not To Sign His PSG Teammate

There are some interesting last-16 fixtures in this season’s Champions League, but most eyes will arguably be on the French giants’ round of 16 tie against the competition’s most successful team ever, Los Blancos.

It has been reported that several players in the PSG dressing room reacted well to the draw, none more so than Lionel Messi, who will be familiar with the Spanish giants following his time doing battle against Real in LaLiga.

According to ABC, the 34-year-old was “delighted” by the outcome of the draw and sees this season as the ideal moment to claim a fifth Champions League gold medal to draw level with longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner won his first UCL trophy in 2006, his second in 2009, his third in 2011 and his fourth under Luis Enrique in 2015.

In the years that followed ahead of his eventual departure from Barcelona, the forward made it his ultimate goal to win Europe’s biggest club competition again but appeared to feel let down by his teammates in Spain.

The Catalan giants went close in the 2018/19 season after a 3-0 win in the first leg of their semi-final against Liverpool, during which Messi scored twice, but an emphatic comeback from the Reds in the return fixture saw Ernesto Valverde’s side crash out.

It is further claimed the PSG camp is positive they can get their hands on the trophy with Messi and Kylian Mbappe in their ranks, who have scored nine goals between themselves in the tournament so far this season.
