A head-turning statistic surrounding the performance of Liverpool midfielder Fabinho during the club’s meeting with Leicester City has come to the fore on Thursday evening.
The stat in question centers on Fabinho’s defensive efforts in the middle of the park at Anfield.
Amid a fine all-round display on the part of Jurgen Klopp’s hosts on Thursday, the likes of attackers Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, as so often proves the case, stole the headlines.
Fabinho, though, tasked with patrolling the ground in front of Liverpool’s back-4, shone bright, too, on his way to no fewer than seven interceptions across the course of the 90 minutes.
This marks the most racked up by any player in a single Premier League fixture this season, a testament to just how important the Brazilian remains to the Reds’ setup:

Jota at the double
Whilst Fabinho excelled on the defensive side of the ball, as alluded to above, up top, it was the likes of Jota and Diaz who took the plaudits amid a new-look Liverpool frontline.
With neither Sadio Mane nor Mohamed Salah yet ready to start owing to their exploits at the Africa Cup of Nations, it was left to a front-three of Diaz, Jota and Roberto Firmino to bag the goals against a faltering Leicester outfit.

And this was precisely what they managed, with Jota having proven difference-maker on the day.
The Portuguese notched not one, but both of Liverpool’s goals, following up a close-range finish late in the first-half with a fine strike just minutes from time, to keep Liverpool’s title fight alive another day:
