Cristiano Ronaldo is currently going through a rough patch as Manchester United’s season goes from bad to worse. The Portugal international returned back in the summer because he felt he had unfinished business at Old Trafford. Yet he’s been so far unable to wake them from their post-Sir Alex Ferguson slump.

Back in the summer, it appeared as though Ronaldo was going to rock United by joining Manchester City.

With the veteran keen to leave Juventus at the time, he was open to the idea of playing at the Etihad Stadium despite knowing it would tarnish his United legacy.

In the end, however, things changed.

Ronaldo ended up sealing a Hollywood homecoming to United after the likes of Ferguson, Patrice Evra, Bruno Fernandes and Rio Ferdinand swayed him into returning.

He was a shining light during Solskjaer’s final few months at the helm.

Yet he’s been unable to perform at the same level under Rangnick, with Planet Football now comparing his record under the pair.

Playing under Solskjaer, Ronaldo scored an impressive nine goals and clocked up two assists in 13 games.

He started 12 of those matches, only being benched for the 1-1 draw against Everton when he was introduced in the second half.

Ronaldo averaged a goal every 120 minutes and also averaged 97.8 minutes for every goal or assist at the club.

Since Rangnick took over, however, the 37-year-old’s performance levels have plummeted.

There is a sense the Portugal international is starting to become a faded force, with his finishing particularly woeful at present.

Ronaldo has played 10 games under the interim boss, starting nine of those.

He was only left on the bench for the recent match with Burnley, coming on for Edinson Cavani – who was given the nod up top instead.

So far, however, Ronaldo has netted just twice.

The forward scored in the 1-0 victory over Norwich in December, while he was also on target in the 3-1 win at home to Burnley.

Ronaldo has clocked up one assist, with one of his goals coming from the penalty spot.

Statistically, however, the veteran won’t be happy.

Ronaldo is now averaging 437 minutes per goal. Even worse, he’s averaging 873 minutes per non-penalty goal.

And he’s also now going roughly 291 minutes at a time before he scores or clocks up an assist.

Certainly, it doesn’t make for positive reading.

And whether Ronaldo can call upon the magic of old, and rediscover his major is something only time will tell.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has slammed the veteran – insisting United were wrong to re-sign him in the summer.

“Ronaldo wasn’t a signing that I felt was the right fit for United for the things that they needed to do,” he said.

“They needed to match fire with fire, they needed to match energy with energy, they needed to match the ability to press teams in a certain way to be able to compete at that level.

“By getting Ronaldo in there you’re going to get goals, but if you can’t match other sides then Ronaldo’s effectiveness is going to be diminished as we have seen.

“Of course he’s popped up and had these stellar cameo moments where he’s scored goals and got United out of the cart, but I thought the signing was more of a Hollywood signing, more of a share price signing.

“This is Ronaldo coming in to spearhead a side rather than be a sensible voice in the dressing room, or a centre-half that comes in and does a certain job, so I wasn’t in the camp of it, I wasn’t suggesting it was going to be an abject failure, but I don’t think he was the antidote to their particular problem.”
