Tottenham would sign Cristian Romero in the summer of 2021 from Serie A outfit Atalanta.
The deal itself was an initial loan move that expires at the end of this season.
However, as confirmed by Antonio Conte recently, Tottenham have an obligation to buy the Argentine stopper and will be doing so: “He’s on loan but we have an obligation to buy. We bought him!”
Conte then continued to speak about Romero, stating that the 23-year-old is perfect for the Premier League:
“He is perfect for this league,” the Italian said. “But if you can play in this league you can play in all the leagues in the world. The problem is when you stay in another league, you have to ask if you can play in the Premier League. But when you play here, you can play in any league in the world.
“Because the intensity, the quality, the physicality that you have here is not present in other leagues. For sure Romero is able to play in this league. This league is a perfect suit for him.”

Romero has not played a Premier League match this year, but after returning to a to action in the FA Cup recently, is expected to feature vs Southampton as well.
Spurs head into the clash with the Saints 7th in the Premier League but with games in hand on all the sides above them.
