Chelsea have won every continental and international accolade on offer since Jorginho’s arrival in 2018, with the midfielder becoming one of the world’s most decorated individuals in that period. However his career could have been very different as he admits he could have joined Manchester City – and still harbours ambitions of playing under Pep Guardiola.

Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli for a fee of £54million in 2018 after a superb stint in west Italy.

The Brazilian-born Italy international wowed boss Maurizio Sarri with his playmaking skills for the Gli Azzurri, and followed the controversial manager to west London upon his arrival.

He had been linked with moves elsewhere before joining the Blues, including City, prior to their move for Rodri being sanctioned just a year later.

And the 30-year-old has admitted he was supposed to move to Manchester – and has opened the door for a career under Guardiola in the future.

“A bid arrived and… you don’t know, man. I’m not going to say it,” Jorginho told Ale Oliveira.

“No, I’m kidding. I wasn’t supposed to come to Chelsea. I was supposed to have arrived at another club. Another English club.

“And then it happened as it happened and I arrived at Chelsea, which also, hey, with history, that’s Chelsea, right, man.

“So with Chelsea everything happened very fast. When I saw it, I was already in London and I said ‘let’s go’.”

“I have [this dream]. I don’t know if it will [happen]. But yeah, he’s a reference.

“When I was a kid, watching his Barcelona [team] win everything with Ronaldinho, Xavi, Iniesta.”

Chelsea currently sit third in the Premier League.
