Some news surfaced today regarding the length of time that key Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount will be out for after getting an ankle injury in the Club World Cup final.
According to The Athletic, it will be at least two weeks before he is back in full training, which obviously isn’t the best news for us or Thomas Tuchel at all.

Mason Mount is facing at least two weeks out with the ankle injury he sustained in the Club World Cup final, meaning he’ll miss Lille at home and is battling to be fit for the League Cup final vs Liverpool.

However, we can try and see the positive of it, and one major one is the fact that Kai Havertz is in good form recently and he has been looking good playing close to Romelu Lukaku.
Both players have struggled for consistency for this season, and I truly believe that letting them play together as a two up top would bring the best out of the both of them.
Havertz likes to roam a little and never really plays in an actual position. He plays as a ‘false 9’ when up top by himself, but I think he works better playing off a striker. And as for Lukaku, he certainly works better when he isn’t a lone striker and the attention isn’t all on him. Havertz can distract the defenders and pull them out of position, allowing Lukaku to make those runs off the last man that he likes to do, or go a bit more undetected as he operates.
It’s within Chelsea’s absolute benefit if both players carried on their form of recent games, and this is the perfect time to allow them to do this alongside each other.
Chelsea could then use Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech behind them if using a 4-2-2-2 in the absence of Mount.
Of course, what we all need is for Mount to get back as soon as possible, but this could allow for an opportunity as explained above that I’d be keen to see a bit more of personally.
