New Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been speaking to the press ahead of his potential debut for the Magpies against Everton.
The Brazilian joined Eddie Howe’s side from Lyon in a major coup for the Tyneside outfit, and will add some much-needed steel to their midfield.
And, during his unveiling, Guimaraes was quizzed on the project he signed up for, and revealed that the long-term goal is to win the Champions League in the North East.
“Newcastle project is more than interesting. The idea this season is to stay in the Premier League”, he explained.
“But in the future the main objective in the seasons to come is to be in the Champions League & eventually to win the Champions League’

Given their newly rich status, that idea doesn’t sound as far-fetched as it would have done under previous owner, Mike Ashley.
Brazilian connection
And, during his unveiling, Guimaraes revealed the four players that sold the Premier League to him, unsurprisingly they were those that he has played with at national level for the Selecao.
Guimaraes spoke to all of Gabriel Jesus, Thiago Silva and Alex Telles in order to build up a picture of the Premier League, while he also consulted fellow Brazilian and now new teammate Joelinton before confirming his move to Tyneside.
“I spoke to Gabriel Jesus, Thiago Silva, Alex Telles & they told me about the Premier League, about how difficult it is to play at Newcastle, how passionate the fans are & I didn’t have to think twice about coming here”, he told the media gathered.

Given how many eyes were on the midfielder, and that Arsenal were rumoured to be sizing up moves for the Lyon man, it is quite the coup for Eddie Howe and his side. His presence could prove the difference between relegation and survival.
