Arsenal have been dealt a summer transfer blow as reports in Italy suggest that Roma will not make the loan move for Ainsley Maitland-Niles a permanent one come the summer.
Maitland-Niles swapped England for Italy in January, completing a loan move to play for Jose Mourinho’s struggling Roma, who played an influential role in the move.
‘He’s one of the best managers in the world, if not the best’, the Englishman told Sky Sports shortly after joining the club.

However, it has not gone the way all parties hoped, and while Maitland-Niles has been trialled in a range of positions, it has not yet clicked.
Mourinho ready to cast him off in Dest chase
According to reports in Calcio Mercato, indifferent performances have led to Roma already having decided not to take up any chance to m,ake Maitland-Niles a permanent addition at the Stadio Olimpico this summer, with Jose Mourinho allegedly set to chase Barcelona’s Sergino Dest instead.
This comes as a blow to Arsenal, not only because of any potential transfer windfall missed out on, but also due to the contract situation of the 24-year-old. Come the summer, ‘AMN’ will have just 1 year left to run on his deal at the Emirates stadium, meaning that Arsenal are unlikely to be able to get anything near the valuation that he at one time suggested that he was worth.
With Arsenal in a weak bargaining position, there is a chance for Premier League teams to snap up English talent on a reduced price, something that will surely catch the eye of a few.
