Arsenal have taken a savage swipe at Tottenham over their ’empty trophy cabinet’ in a spectacular dig. In the last 31 years, Spurs have won just one piece of silverware – in 2008 the League Cup against Chelsea.
Arsenal have insisted that the message had not been approved and that it will be removed at once, but not before pictures had gone viral on social media.
Fans were left stunned while Arsenal supporters extolled in glee over the savage jab at their local rival’s expense.
One fan said: “Surely someone’s hacked the official Arsenal shop.”
Another wrote: “I thought this was just some random online banter, but it’s real LMAO!”
“Arsenal doing Tottenham dirty,” this fan quipped.
But a Spurs supporter said: “The fact Arsenal have to put that on their website shows how threatened they are of us nowadays. We’re totally in their heads rent free.”
While Arsenal’s ribbing might have been the result of an over-zealous staff member, it illuminates the lack of success at Tottenham in recent years.
The last trophy Spurs landed was back in 2008 when they beat Chelsea 2-1 in the League Cup final and before then it was all the way back in 1991 when they lifted the FA Cup.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have hardly been lighting the country up in recent years but have still managed success as recent as 2020 when they won the FA Cup.
In fact, the Gunners are the most successful club in the competition having landed 14 of them throughout their history.
